Unfortunately, despite my great intentions, I have as of yet to start sewing. I've cut 1/3 of the pattern out, but that's it.

I just thought these were fun and too good not to pass on. Some of them I found on Pinterest the newest web sensation. Some of them I found on my own.I still plan to start sewing, but it's hard when there is no one to teach you and your local Joann's Fabric doesn't have sewing classes. GRRRR!

First cut

As you might know I recently was the recipient of a brand new sewing machine. I went to Joann's Fabric and bought about 25 patterns. They were on sale for .99 cents each, so I got a (great) deal. Of those 25 patterns I finally decided on my first project! It's a McCall's pattern, which I hear are pretty easy.

This will be for my little girl. I'm really hoping I can pull it off, because again, it's been between 20 and 22 years since I sewed. I found the fabric I want to use, (you can see it below).

I've gotten all of my supplies, things like fabric scissors, fabric pen, pins, pin cushion, thread, etc. Last night I made my first cuts. I'm pretty sure I messed up on the cutting. You see I don't do well with map reading, and the whole "fold your fabric this way and cut it that way" thing doesn't really work well in my mind. We'll see when I start trying to sew this stuff together how I did. I'm pretty excited about this project, can't wait to see how many ways I'll actually mess it up.

Trying to learn to sew on your own isn't that easy. I wish the Joann's near me had sewing lessons, but they don't so I'm on my own.

Who's really in charge?

Picture it:
A toddler in footy pajamas with wrap around sunglasses on. She is holding an empty soda bottle in her right hand by the neck. He left palm is upturned and she is punctuating every step she takes towards you by slapping that empty soda bottle onto her upturned palm. You look up alerted by the sound of the bottle slapping her hand. As you look up you are blinded by the flashlight she has pointing at you which is secured under her left armpit.
As this vision of toddler authority comes swaggering closer and closer, hips a wagging, bottle a slapping and flashlight a shinning....you hear her say, "Well (bottle slap), well (bottle slap), well (bottle slap). What do we have here?!? (Bottle thown to the side, and flashlight grabbed and flashed into your eyes in one fluid movement)."
You stare in shock and confusion. The toddler then hooks her finger over the too of her sunglasses and pulls them down to the bridge of her nose. She cocks her hip and places he flashlight holding hand on it. She looks down at you from over thetoo top of her sunglasses and says (as though it should be obvious) "I can SEE you. WHAT are you doing?!?"
You sit there in shock. No idea how to respond. Knowing if you laugh she'll go all LAPD/Rodney King on your ass. Knowing if you don't respond she'll turn into a puddle on the floor.
As you are considering your options you are saved by your old, overweight cat who chooses that moment fall out if the window in his sleep. Thus taking the attention of the toddler off of you as she laughs hysterically at the poor old beast's disorientation when he awakens to find himself on the floor.

Sewing

I got a sewing machine for Christmas. Now I already have one, it's heavy duty, industrial strength, but it's in an old sewing desk, and I can't get to it...no room.

But this new one, I can put it on the dining room table and sew!!! It's been about 20 years since I last sat down in front of a sewing machine and made anything (an apron in home ec), I think I remember the basics. But I can't wait to get this thing out and get working on new and exciting projects. Thanks to the bins at JoAnn's Fabric I have some material I can play with. I think my new project will be some pajama bottoms for my toddler.

I'm just so excited about this. I've found so fun projects on http://www.pinterest.com my newest obsession.

I can't wait for my daughter to get older, so I can teach her how to knit, crochet, sew, all that jazz.

At this time of year we all think about our blessings, then in the next thought we turn to what we want. It's a little schizophrenic I think.

What I have, what I want, what I have, what I want, what I have, what I want....then comes Christmas, and it's...what I have, what I got, what I have, what I got, what I have what I got.

As a society we've gotten away from what Christmas is. We've killed the extended family, we don't know our grandparents, great-grandparents. Quick, tell me the names of your great-grandparents (including their maiden names). Can't do it can you.

I'm blessed to have a family that is close, a family that loves one another, and wonderful in-laws. I have my needs met, and I have beautiful children. Things are great, but this year, I'm just happy to have my blessings. And ALL of my true blessings are the people in my life, here and those who've passed. They've given me riches that money can't buy, and I'm happier for them.

Well I'm officially a blog abandoner. I just can't seem to get the time to post. I also can't seem to finish a knit/crochet project. Right now I have a blanket on the needle (crochet) and a skirt for my toddler on the circ's by the time I'm done with the skirt it'll be just in time to fit my grandchild.

I wish I had more time, drive, organization but then I wouldn't be able to find half done projects around the house that re-spark my drive to knit/crochet.

I would love to post on here more, but the demands of a full time job, two kids, a husband, and life in general (and my inability to organize and my absolute lack of time sense) makes that nearly impossible. I will try to post more, but I've said that before, and as you can see there is a 6 month gap in my posts (if not more).

I can say that I'm not going to beat myself up over it, as the absolute joy (or as is sometimes the case "joy") I get from raising my children makes it really easy not to stress over abandoning my blog.

My son did his school play today. It was great. All about finding gold and the gold rush that soon followed. Those kids were wonderful. It was great to see so many families come to support their children. My mom even drove 3 hours to see the play. That is love.

I've been gone for a long time, it's hard to knit and blog with two kids and a life. But now there is this handy dandy blogger app. for the android phone, it mint make it easier. If only I can find time to knit.
I did find some time to try and learn crochet. But I. Mad a mistake and got frustrated and stopped. I want to try again though. I did enjoy it, and it's much faster than knitting.
Although no matter what knitting is my first love.

- Memorial Day

We had a great Memorial Day, family BBQ, our second wedding anniversary. It was really very nice. I've finally found some time for reading (albeit very little time) but some time nonetheless. I'm reading the most recent book in the Diana Gabaldon Outlander series. I love her books and have missed Jaime and Claire.

I really want to get back to knitting, but with a 9 year old, a 17 month old, and a 35 year old, it's hard. I did manage to indulge my craft bone the other day. I made a no sew tutu for the baby. She LOVES it. Ahhhhh, floofy girl that she is, all she wants to do it wear it and flounce around. My husband thinks I'm nuts, making a tutu for a baby, but she's all about it.

I made it no sew so that I can reruse the tulle when she grows. (Yup, I'm cheap!). For my first attempt it came out rather well.

Way too long

It's been way too long since I posted, but with family, the baby, etc. I've just been so busy. I hardly have time for me let along this blog. :-)

I haven't had much time to knit, my little 16 month tornado wont let me. Right now I'm having so much fun watching her grow up. She's got all but her bottom two cainine teeth (which should be coming in any day now), then all she's got is her two year molars.

It's been oh so long since I had time to update this blog. My daughter is now almost 14 months. She's got 10 teeth, can say: Mama, Daddeeeeeee, Dar (for her brother), cat, kitty, hi, bye, belly, stop, that, here. She runs, just started jumping (on her crib materess). She's testing the power of the tempertantrum and finding it lacking. ;-)

I manage to knit somtimes, not often enough however.

Well, she's going to be a year old in about a week, and what a year it's been. My darling daughter is my joy! She's got 6 teeth, is walking and running, hasn't crawled in about a month. She says a few words, plays jokes, and is generally a ball!

- Beer bread

1 1/2 C. Unbleached flour
1 1/2 C. Whole Wheat Flour
4 1/2 t. Baking Powder
2 (or to taste) Clove garlic, skinned and chopped
1/2 C. Shredded Cheddar Cheese
Fresh Dill finely chopped
Fresh Thyme finely chopped
1 12oz. room temperature beer (not non-alcoholic)

1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Combine flour, baking powder, garlic, cheese, dill, thyme (both dill and thyme add to taste) and beer in large nonreactive bowl. Mix together until dough is thick and fully mixed.

3. Place dough in lightly greased bread pan bake for 50 minutes. Take out and enjoy.

I haven't been too good at posting lately. Busy with baby and general family stuff. Rosa Leigh is now 28 1/4" long/tall, 18 pounds and 9 months old. She's a blast to be around, so happy.

I'm finally starting on a hat for her, I haven't been able to knit forEVER!!!! But I'm going to make Carissa Knits Snowflake hat but I'm adding earflaps to it.

Tooth number 3 is in, or at least broken though. The arrival of tooth #4 is imminent.

I have 8 more rows of a dress to do and it will be finished, (any bets on how long this will take?) I'm tired. That is all.

Oh, and I'm tired on MJ, he's dead, he was odd, he was a good singer, and he was fiction. The singer was not the man, the pictures were not the man, Neverland was not the man. He's gone, everyone but his family should be over it by now.

I know I don't have time to blog. I know I don't have time to knit. I know I don't have time to read. I know I don't have time to ______________ <----enter random activity here.

Yet I just started a new google site for the family. I'm only opening it up to my family and DH's family. I've added a calendar and allowed everyone to use/make changes to it. I'm hoping we can have one site that everyone goes to so we know what is going on, coming up, etc. But I know, I'm going to have trouble keeping it up. SIGH.

On a positive note, I'm almost done with my first baby clothing outfit, that I'm giving to DH's hubby. It's the Kaia Babydoll dress/shirt thingy. Whatever it is, it's too cute, and I can't wait to make one for Rosa Leigh (who by the way said "hi" today)

It's been a long time since my last post. I've been so freakin' busy. With the baby, and the husband, and the son, frankly, my time is no longer my own. I've been trying to keep up with friends and family on facebook, and visit my WTE Mommas. That takes up all of my limited free time.

I am in the process of knitting a dress, which was supposed to be for Rosa Leigh, but is going to be for my husband's cousin's daughter (who has yet to make an appearance in this world) as I used the wrong size needles and it will be too small for Rosa Leigh when finished.

It's amazing how many things can happen in a month when you have a baby. She's crawling, has two teeth and two more that will appear any day now. We've gotten a new car, paid off an old car, school will be starting soon for our son, we've been back and forth from home to the Bay regularly.

I've gotten addicted to my crackberry and am lamenting all the time I lost not just breaking down and getting one years ago. I am wishing someone would come up with some good knitting apps for the blackberry, so I could merge all of my loves.....Right now this is where I am. I would like to update my blog once a week, but I know that is a foolish and unatainable wish right now. So I will have to settle for 'when I can'.

Rosa Leigh the actress:

We went shopping. When we got home we went to get her out of the car, but she was 'obviously' asleep. Head down, eyes closed, shoulders slumped, the whole shebang. My husband was going to get her out of the car, but he sees her asleep, and says "I'll go open up the house, you get her out." He says this as he's walking away.

She hears him walking away, and didn't realize I was right there watching her. As soon as Darwin stepped away, her head snapped up, eyes open, smiling....then she sees me. Eyes get wide, head drops to chest, shoulders slump, eyes close, and BAM we're 'back asleep'.

I start laughing, she flutters her eyelashes like she's just waking up and she glares at me for 'waking' her up. LOL.

I've donated breast milk to the Mother's Milk Bank in San Jose, CA. My extra frozen milk is on it's way to babies in the neo-natal unit. I have donated 559.75 ounces (or 34lbs) of breast milk.

I am very excited and happy that I can help someone's baby!

Rosa Leigh is 5 months old now. Time sure does fly. She is rolling over, doing her damn'dest to crawl. She'll be movin' a mile a minute any time now. Two days ago her two bottom teeth popped up and out of her little gums.

She giggles constantly, and plays games with her Daddy. Her favorite is when he trys to kiss her, she waits til the last minute, then turns her head.

Sometimes when you are playing with her, she will try not to smile. Then when she can't help it any longer she will turn her head and smile...."if you can't see me, I can't see you".

I have such a happy baby. She is always smiling. She wakes up smiling. I swear in the past 3 days she's gained about 10lbs. She's a CHUNK. Her arm rolls are starting to overtake her hands, and her forearms make her look like Popeye!

She's so big and I can't believe how fast it's going by. She's going to be 5 months tomorrow! Can you believe it?!?

Donating Milk

I'm going to donate milk. Since Rosa Leigh is eating about 5 to 6 ounces while I'm gone, then eating a TON when I'm home, and I'm pumping more than she can eat, I want to donate milk.

I still have colostrum left!!! I don't want this to go to waste, so I've contacted a milk bank in CA and I've got between 200-300 ounces to donate. That will still leave me with a ton of milk stored for Rosa Leigh in case she starts to eat more.

But since she is 4.5 months, and at 6 months she'll be eating some solids during the day and BFing at night...I'm still going to be pumping during the day the same amount, she's going to be eating even less....I'm going to continue to donate.

Since the milk goes to neo-natal babies, and really, I don't have to put out any extra effort, I'm gonna do it....anyone with me? ;-)

I know I haven't posted in a while, but damnd if my little angel doesn't keep me busy. I've got some new pictures of her (she's now 4 months old), and I'll have to post them. I've started (ok, I'm 4 rows in...that's a start) the baby ugg boots. I found the pattern on http://www.ravelry.com. I can't wait to make them, I just need to find the time. Between working, baby, son, hubby, sleep, eating, and random otherness, I don't have much free time.

Also since the little one is teething, she alternately wants to be held, put down, picked up, put down, to chew on Mommie, put down......

All I have to say is, WOW, really swine flu?

Ok, you're not going to get it from eating pig...if you think you can get it that way, I hope Darwin (Charles, not my husband) comes up and slaps you silly.

On a different note, my daughter is DEFINATELY teething. She's kinda bottle feeding, she's getting huge. She'll be 4 months on Sunday, and last time I weighed her she was 13lb 7oz, 24 inches long...that was two weeks ago. Since she's been in a hell of a growth spurt for the past week (or 10) she's got to have gained at least a pound.

Is she?!? Hmmmmmm.

We have signs of teething, but they could also be signs of getting older.

Now Rosa Leigh isn't a fusser, she crys when hungry, overstimulated, or tired. Her crying consists of Wah...meh...then she's done. Enough to let you know something is going on, but not really screaming. She can produce tears, but rarely does because she doesn't cry long enough....YES, I AM A LUCKY WOMAN, this I know.

But the past week, she's been fussier than usual, drooling a LOT. Gnawing on her fist, and when I let her suck on my finger, she is no longer sucking on in, but chewing on it.

The other day one of her cheeks was swollen, red and hot to the touch, with no visible rash. It didn't bother her when we touched it, and it was gone the next day.

I can't figure out if she's growing or beginning to teeth.

My DH gave Rosa Leigh a kiss and she tried as hard as she could not to smile. I mean she tried HARD not to smile. She finally couldn't hold it in, first one side of her mouth smiled. Then she cracked a HUGE grin, but as soon as that gummy grin popped out, she turned her head (like if I can't see you, you can't see me, and the smile doesn't count). When she finally got her grin under control, she looked back at him with a straight face as though to say, "You didn't get me. You can't make me smile."

I'm getting brave people, I'm going to attempt Fair Isle. My first attempt at it will be the Fake Isle Hat. I'm going to use Patons SWS 70128 Natural Blue and Patons Classic Wool 00225 Dark Grey Mix. I think it'll turn out well. I am a tight knitter, and so I'm going to have to watch that.

I would like to say that I am drooling over Patons Silk Bamboo yarn and Joann's is having a sale. And if you search you can find a free shipping coupon code online. I am so tempted, but I have to get my car fixed first. SIGH!!!!!!

I've been making a lot of hats lately. I think because they are quick, easy to put down then pick right back up, and they are giving me a sense of accomplishment.

These two hats I made to donate to the hospital I gave birth to my daughter in. They are preemie hats.

This hat I made for a friend's baby. I put it on my daughter just so she could model it. It's made in the same pattern as the one I made for her. A quick knit, with no seems it's great for a baby.

This hat I made for myself. I love it. It is so simple, yet looks deceptively difficult.

So I have my first knitting commission! Woo Hoo! It's for a hat like I made for Rosa Leigh. It's for one of the woman on WTE (www.whattoexpect.com. I'm very excited!

I also talked to a lady at a local baby store and she said if I make a few hats she'll put them on the shelves and try to sell them for me. How exciting!

I made a hat for my kiddo, no pattern. It's an earflap hat with no seams. I made it from 100purewool. It's single ply Padua. I made it a little big so it'll fit her next year.

These pictures are the best I could get, as she wasn't in a picture taking mood.

If anyone wants the pattern let me know. Right now I'm making another one for a friend. The one I'm making for her is in Camo colored wool. I'll get a pic before I mail it to her.

My 9 week old daughter is starting to get a sense of humor. Yesterday, she was fussing around wanting to eat. I got her all ready, pulled out the utter and she QUICKLY shoved her hand in her mouth. I looked at her and pulled her hand out and started to pop in the food machine, and she started he heing/cooing with a big smile. You could tell she was trying to joke with me. Like "look mom I can get my fist in my mouth faster than you can feed me."

She's also starting to act. I know I'm in trouble. The other morning I she woke me up smacking on her hand. A sure indication that if I didn't wake up and present the utter that crying would commence. :-) So I got up and walked over to the bassinet. We made eye contact and then all of a sudden I see a smile, her eyes close her head fall to the side and her hands fall limply to her side. But then I notice her left eye, is slightly open. She's watching me. I mention to this 8 week old drama queen that "I know you're awake." What to I get but a quick smile (eyes still half closed as though asleep), and her head turns to the other side.

When I picked her up she yawned and stretched like she just woke up. Little drama queen.

Basically if you have a dead link you copy it into the archives and about 90% of the time it'll pull it up for you. Nothing ever really dies on the internet. But in the interest of ease I've copied the pattern below.

Deisgner: Unknown
Rating: Medium

Materials: 1 ball 50 gr. Bernat Cotton Yarn. Set of 4, #7 US or 4.5mm needles
Directions:
Cast on 8 stitches
Divide stitches onto 3 needles. Place marker at first stitch.
Round 1: Knit through back of loop of each stitch to end of round

I can't figure this out. Ok, I can, but growing up in a time of (GASP) Metal monkey bars and slides with with cement or wood chip underneath, I don't understand what kind of parents would buy Baby's first headgear.

No I do know what kind of parents would buy this. The kind who get their kids out of any jam, jump up and gasp at the slightest bump. The kind who can't take a joke, are politically correct all the time. The kind whose kids will not be able to fend for themselves when they grow up. The kind whose kids will be living with them for the REST of their lives....not because of the economy, but because their parents have so severely damaged them they aren't able to have normal relationships with their peers. It's amazing what you get excited about when you become a mom. I got excited about her 3 lb weight gain. About her first smile, thought it was hysterical the first time she peed on me, etc. Today I'm excited about:

- To Breastfeed in Public or Not to...

I grew up seeing women breastfeed in public when traveling in Mexico and Central America, it was quite normal. Personally, I could care less. I've had big breasts since they popped out one day and said "Hi" to the world. So frankly I'm used to people starting, whether I wear a sweatshirt or a tanktop. :-)

Now, I've never been one to show them off, I'm a little shy for that, but I'll tell you what in the last 5 weeks, my attitude has changed significantly.

1) I'm going to feed my baby when she's hungry. I figure, adults and children eat anywhere and everywhere, so can my daughter. Adults and children are better at dealing with hunger than my 5 week old infant, so bully to you!

2) I'm not going to flaunt it, but if you stare, then you see what you get.

3) Trying to cover these ginormous bazoooms is difficult, I'll do my best, but frankly, I'm no magician. :-)

4) I will NOT feed her in a bathroom. I don't eat in my own bathroom, I'm sure as hell not going to feed my baby in a public bathroom.

5) If it's not to hot/cold I don't mind feeding her in my car, but I'm not going to sit in my car in 20 degree or 115 degree weather. Both of which we have here.

6) If I'm at a Mommy's group, (especially La Leche group) I'm not going to go out of my way to hide them, especially as all of the other Mommies are feeding their babies too.

I don't think I'm exceptionally gungho, but frankly, they're boobs. According to my son, "You've got utters?!? That's cool." They're for feeding. I'm not going to make a spectacle of myself but if you look you might see something, if you stare you definitely will, and well.....I don't care.

Yup that's right she breastfed someone else's baby. A stranger's baby. I have to give her much respect. That is amazing. You don't expect selfless and humane acts from celebrities these days. In the era of spoiled rich bitches like Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, etc. It's nice to hear of someone who does for others is such a very human and personal way.

So I thought it would be good to post my diaper suggestions. I have found the best diapers for my daughter are:

Nature Babycare

I was planning on cloth, but she came early and I hadn't contacted the local diaper service. My cousin made a diaper cake for the baby shower, and used biodegradable diapers. I have found them to be WONDERFUL! They don't blow out (and damn if my lovely daughter can't shoot some poo, how she is so little and holds so much I'll never figure out). Anywhoo, they are compostable, and she doesn't get a rash when she uses these. You can find them at Babys R Us, some Toys R Us, Amazon...I ordered mine at Target.com using a $5 off coupon I found online (but should have used my AAA discount). Oh well. I'd love to hear other diaper recommendations, be they disposable or cloth.

I love this kid. She's a constant joy. I can't stop looking at her, staring really. I'm sure she's wondering why and who this strange woman is who is constantly in her face. :-)

I took her to work today, and while I know people always say "Oh your daughter is beautiful." I never get tired of hearing it. I love showing her off, and hearing people say how pretty she is. :-) I know they are telling the truth which makes it so much better (he, he).

She's gaining weight well, and growing inches in days (or so it seems). She changes so fast it's hard to keep up. Her hair is growing like a weed, and she's so much more curious and aware every day.

It's so fun to see the changes. One day I'll be able to knit again, but right now, I don't miss it so much, because I've got something to keep my interest. :-)

Oh, and I've joined facebook, it's pretty cool.

I'm a member of a pregnancy forum, which I love. I've met some of the most wonderful women!

About a month ago I filled out a survey and won a free breast pump. How awsome is that?!? It's a MiPump by Learning Curve. I already have a Medala Pump In Style that my insurance paid for. Here is my first impression of the MiPump:

Ok I got mine yesterday via UPS. It was a surprise because I didn't get an e-mail saying I'd won one. But hell, I'm not upset or anything. I boiled all the parts today, and tried it out.

I'm going to have to try it more, but here is my first impression thus far:

1) It's quiet. I like that.
2) It's compact, which I love. I like the different ways you can use it. In the holder, out of the holder, with batteries, pretty cool.
3) There are soooo many parts, I still don't get what they all do.
4) Like everyone else, I wish it had a booklet, not that big ass poster. It's too much, and I don't want to carry a poster around with me.
5) On my first try it only pumped 2oz. Now my sides pump differently, so for the left 2oz is fine...for the right I should have gotten at least 4oz if not more.
6) I can't figure out that bar thingy. I tried it and the cups kept rolling back off of my breasts. Also there is so odd white stuff in the connection area that came off on the bottle and I don't know what it is. It looked like putty.
7) I still can't figure out all the parts (yup, I put this one twice).
8) The hose is kinda tense, but I'm sure that'll work itself out.

I'll keep using it, trying it out, but so far I like the medala pump in style better...but I'm also more used to it, and the medala has it's own issues!

I HAVE MY BABY GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She was born 1/3/09 at 8:12pm. She was 21 inches long and 6lb 13oz.

My water broke (gushed) at work on Friday, 1/2/09 at 3pm (18 days early, I was due 1/20/09). I went home and Darwin took me to the hospital. After 29 hours of labor (contractions 1 minute apart, VERY strong) and trying everything. I dilated only to a 2. Dr. and Nurses were confused, and told me I was a medical oddity. :-)

I ended up having to have a c-section. I had to have two spinal blocks the first one didn't take, so they had to do a second. That one took a long time and they almost didn't want to let Darwin in because they almost had to put me out completely. When they told DH that he started praying, and before he could "amen" they realized the second spinal and the, "massive amounts of Lidocane, enough to kill a normal person" according to the Dr., finally took and they let him in.

Rosa Leigh Eloah K.... is beautiful. I cant stop staring!!!! I'll post pics and more later. I got home yesterday around 2pm. So I was in the hospital from Friday at 4pm until Tuesday at 2pm. I was so ready for home. I am EXHAUSTED, and my mom, DH's mom, my SIL and DH's aunt have been lifesavers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and she was born on one of her Auntie's birthdays. How cool.

Damned if time doesn't fly! It's apparently been about a month since I posted but, I know, surprisingly I've been busy. :-)

I've got 3 weeks left until bebe is supposed to make her wold debut. I'm going to go out on a limb and say she'll be late though. I'm fine with that, I'm feeling great! No problems, no issues, the worst is when she sticks her butt in my ribs and arches wanting rubs. Sigh. I think my kid is going to have a large behind, no scratch that, I think she already does. And I think she knows I'm typing about her, 'cause she's squirming all over.

I'm anxiously awaiting Jan. 20th, not only for the due date, but for the inauguration of the century! One of my co-workers is going with her daughter, that's lucky lady! But hey, I live in the 20th century, we can tape it. <--- Oh my husband has recently pointed out to me that saying I am "taping" something shows my age, as we no longer "tape" but "record" things on the DV-R. WHATEVER!

So what's been on my mind? You know it has to be something. Ok, here goes. (let's see can I offend someone today?) Jehovah's Witnesses. I don't get them. I don't get the 'you can't celebrate holidays', but then lets have a 'family get together'. Or their 'you can't celebrate holidays' and if the rest of your family gets together because they aren't Jehovah you can't go. So effectively they are separating families, causing strife, frustration and doing to complete opposite of what I understand Jesus taught. Fine, don't bring presents, don't accept presents, but don't stay separate from your family. Especially if your family is a religious and spiritual one in the first place. It's not like it's all about the presents.

I've seen in a couple of places, and talked to a couple of friends who have had this situation come up recently. That and the "I'll pick and choose what I'll celebrate." or "I'll take your presents, but don't expect one as I don't celebrate". Come on, at least be consistent. PLEASE. If you have a belief stick to it, not just when it's easy for you, but always. To me it is worse when you only follow your "beliefs" some of the time than believe in something I can't wrap my pretty little head around but you follow it faithfully.

Now, about Condi Rice and her "People will thank Bush later on....." Really?!? What people will those be? Seriously, do you believe that, because if you do, than DAMN, you aren't as smart as people give you credit for. And Laura Bush. I know he's your husband, I know you want to back him and support him, but even you can see he's an idjit! I'll give it to you that you don't want to say it in public. Maybe to a girlfriend or two, quietly, in private. I'm ok with that, but don't come out in public and praise him. Sit back with that Mona Lisa smile and look out at the American public and share with us the secret that we all know (worldwide) to be true, you married a man who is just out of freakin' touch, and thinks he's not. He's that dad who thinks saying things like "dis" and "kicks" and "dude" is ok 'cause "all the kids say it". NO, its not ok. Keep your slang, use it and be proud of it. Stay out of touch and own it, be ok with it, but don't try to pretend you know what's "hip" or "cool" or even "current events" 'cause damn it Bush, you don't.

So all week my son has been with us. One rule we have is "try three times, if you can't do it yourself, THEN ask for help."

So all week, he's been trying to open water bottle, etc, and if he can't do it after three attempts, then "Um, can you open/do/help....." All week with the water bottle it's been while I'm driving, so I tell him "hold the bottom tight then I reach over with one hand and WaaLa it's open.

This morning he got out of the shower, he was all try and had just put on lotion, I told him to grease his hair. I hear him making grunting/trying to open something sounds. Then I hear "Can you help me?!?" I go over to the bathroom, open the door and he is hold the jar of grease. He says "I can't open this." I tell him, hold the bottom. Then with two finger I barely twist and WAALA it's open. Super easy, super quick.

The look on his face was hysterical. Amazed/shocked/confused/a little scared/and just over all wide eyed, and he says "Uh, are you a wizard?!?" As he backs up a step.

OMG, I almost died laughing. Poor little guy. I had to explain that I was not in fact a wizard, but that my hands had no lotion so I could open the jar without my fingers slipping.

I am without words. I worked the election yesterday, and when I got home I found out that Obama won. I cried!!!

He is a bi-racial man, a first generation American (on one side), he has achieved the highest office this country has, and he will become president in 2009...the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birthday.

My daughter will be a bi-racial woman. She will be a first generation American (on one side), she can achieve her hearts desire, and I can tell her that with no shadow on my heart, with no hopefulness in my voice, I can tell her that knowing it is true, know it can/has been done. I can point to Obama and tell her, tell my step-son tell my future children, they are equal in the eyes of the majority.

Yesterday we as a country achieved something that I was taught would never happen in my life. I was taught this by my very liberal Bay Area elementary school teachers. The taught it with regret, with sadness and with frustration, but they taught it nonetheless. I now know what my parents taught me is true. No matter what, things can/will change. If someone tells you it cant be done, they're wrong, they just cant see beyond their own experiences. Learn to look and see the possibilities and anything can happen.

A man was elected not due to the color of his skin, but the beliefs that he held, and he was elected 'despite' (for lack of a better word) the color of his skin. The issue wasn't his ethnicity or the birth country of his parents, but did we as a people belive he was the best man for the job. The answer was YES, and that is wonderful to me.

Ok, now to real life. We pre-registered for the hospital last night. They did a cool little presentation, showed a DVD, showed a slideshow with pictures of the maternity ward. Gave us sandwiches, cake, fruit, and lemonaid. Then when we left they gave us a nice canvas "labor bag" and a set of handmade (knit) baby booties. :-) Super cute. I really like our hospital, and their policies, I'm getting more and more comfortable with where we are going to go.

So I want to ease back into knitting. I definitely want to make stuff for the baby but I wanted to start with a small project that I know I can/will finish so that when I really get back into it, I'll have that "I accomplished something" feeling.

So I picked up the needles yesterday CO about 35 stitches with some cheap 'ol walmart brand cotton. I'm going to make a dishcloth.
Row 1-2: Knit 2 rows,
Row 3: K2 *p1,k1* K2,
Row 4: K all stitches,
repeat Rows 3 and 4 until desired length. After completing a K2 *p1,k1*K2 row, knit two rows bind off.
I figure simple, quick, slight pattern-ish, good way to ease in.

Then I started thinking, "If I'd made this bigger I could TOTALLY make it into a bib...you know your back when while you're knitting a project you are already 1)thinking of the next one, and 2) making adjustments in your head.

Now on to more serious topics. John McCain wants to suspend his campaign and "work on the economy." Ok, maybe it's me, but that makes me think either:

1) He can only focus on one issue at a time (ie not a multi-tasker) and when a serious problem arises he can't do anything else but pay attention to that and only that.

Except seriously? He has to suspend his campaign?!? Does anyone REALLY truly think McCain runs the campaign? Come on, he has people to do that. He delegates, he doesn't deal with the day to day stuff. So in reality, he's suspending nothing.

2) He wants to take momentum away from Barack.

If he really wanted to do that, he'd debate and make a good showing of his knowledge of the issues and "win" the debate. That is what will truly take momentum away from Obama.

I'm sure there are people out there who think this is some king of genuine......uh....something, but seriously, can you be more of a politician? Can you say political game? I am sick and tired of this kind of game playing BULLSHIT! Debate, make your points, talk about the issues, answer a freaking question! That will win you points.

Oh, OH, how 'bout this, TELL THE TRUTH?!? OMG, do you think that might help?!?

How exciting, right now there is so much anticipation as to the gender I haven't even wonder what the personality will be like let alone what it will look like....although soon I will have to stop calling it "IT" and call it he or she. :-)

Ok, I'm due January 20. I think that ROCKS. That is the day the new President and VP take office. Now here's the thing....

With McCain just making his announcement and choosing a women for his VP and Obama being the Democratic Presidential candidate my baby will be born in (what I think) the most historic year in the history of our country since we gained our independence, or since the end of slavery. And the thought that my baby is due on that day?!?

Despite who you are going to vote for, despite your party affiliation, its amazing. I am so thankful that this is when my baby is coming into the world. Despite our problems, despite our issues, changes are being made every day.

I remember in elementary school (mine was VERY liberal Episcopal school in the San Francisco Bay Area) being taught that a women and ESPECIALLY a Black man would NEVER EVER be a candidate let alone "allowed" into the white house....now despite your choice one or the other will be.

Apparently I've been retaining some water....or about 5lbs. My feet have swollen from a size 6 1/2 to a 10. Needless to say, this is not the best. So the nurse told me to stay off of my feet as much as possible this weekend, drink 3 liters of water a day, and go to prompt care if I get dizzy, have vision changes or headaches. I've been keeping my feet up, and have been drinking a butt load of water and am feeling way better. My hands are still swollen, but not as bad, so I've been able to knit three whole rows (120 stitches) in the round, in order to start a new hat for my MIL. I haven't been able to knit in forever! My hands have been hurting for a while and I just haven't been able to knit. But now, VICTORY!!!! :-)

I'm going to attempt the Claudia hat again. Last time my problem was that I didn't follow the pattern. So I messed it up. I'm going to try again. I love the hat, and think my MIL will too.

Yup, I'm preggo! 4 1/2 months to be exact. I'll find out in two weeks if we're having a boy or a girl....or a puppy, I'm hoping for a boy or a girl.

So you'll have to forgive the intermittent posting, we're busy, and excited, and typing with swollen finger, not my favorite past time. :-)

So my husband worked out of town yesterday. He left yesterday morning at 5am, and got home at 11pm last night. We ate a quick bite, and went straight to bed.

So Hubby woke up at 4am I'm guessing for a quick trip to the bathroom. He shakes me awake and say "Hey, it's raining" Now it's been a pretty mild summer, mid 90's few 100's this year, but raining?!? NO WAY. So I say "Hunh? Inside?" <---- Yeah, I'm a genius when I wake up, right?

Hubby says "Yup, it's raining in the bathroom....don't try to make sense of it, just come here"....Sure as #### it's "raining" in the bathroom. The upstairs apartment is leaking into our bathroom. GREAT!!!!

Our "manager" is supposed to be here with someone to fix stuff at 10am. Meanwhile, the celling is bulging, and water is dripping. I saw the upstairs neighbor and told them there was water leaking from their bathroom into ours. I asked them to talk to the manager, not run their water and check to see if there is water coming from anywhere.....what did she do? She left.

Up date, there is now a huge hole in our ceiling. They almost had to break into the neighbor's apartment because they have changed the deadbolt, and their toilet tank has been leaking for God knows how long, and they "never noticed". GRRRRR. We have to wait for the ceiling to dry out before it gets fixed.

I don't think I have to explain, but I will. I think it's very simple really, and I don't/can't understand why everyone can't get it.

Jesus said love all, care for all, include all. Everyone and everything is God's creation and God's creations should be loved and cared for.

The church (and IMHO the Episcopal Church does a little better than most) says, love those that don't make you uncomfortable, care for the people who are like you, and include ones who you understand. Those who make you uncomfortable, aren't like you and you don't understand must not be God's creation, because God wouldn't create different.....right?!? I mean really, God doesn't want us to grow and change, God doesn't want us to evolve and think, God doesn't want us to be inclusive and God sure as shit doesn't want us to EVER be uncomfortable or confused or thoughtful. OH, and inclusive, caring and loving, God sure wouldn't want that.

We went to the Bay Area this past weekend and spent some wonderful time with the family. Saw some friends, and loved every minute of it.

I have transfered jobs, and have a new learning curve, which has it's positives (I'm not bored) and negatives (I'm not bored).

I haven't had time to knit, but I have had time to read which is wonderful, I love to read.

I saw a movie this weekend, I would suggest, Kung Fu Hustle it's great. My step-son LOVES it and tells everyone he sees "I've got Kung Fu Hustle!"

Well that's a quick update on what I've been up to. Life is busy as usual, and I need to clean my house....sigh....I wish houses were like some oven and you could set it to self clean.

I've given up on the idea of knitting myself a garter. I love the pattern, its beautiful and not at all hard to knit....but frankly, I have no finishing power. I'm a WIP (work in progress) not and FO (finished object) kinda gal!! Well, that and the time thing, I'm exactly two weeks from the big day, and I will soon be a different person....well I'll have a different name at least. :-)

I'll admit it, I bought a garter. It's cute, has blue, and the ribbon says "I do". He he, it's cute.

Well since I don't have staying power when it comes to my knitting, I decided to down my sorrows in a new project. I've begun to knit the Pinwheel Baby Blanket. It's an easy pattern, you can put it down and pick it up again with no problems. It's a good one to knit on while watching t.v. And I can do whatever I want to with it. Yeah, we'll see if it ever gets finished.

Well the wedding is less than 3 weeks away! WOW, it's coming up so fast. I got my dress altered yesterday...well I did the fitting, and I'll get it hopefully next week. I got my crinoline, my shoes, my garter, my jewlery, my veil, and uhhhh, I think that's it.

FH got his suit and little Jr.'s suit. Pretty much everything is ready. Once the wedding is over, I should have knitting time and blogging time.

Hey all, I finished my very first sock!!! Here is a picture of it. I made it using Silver's Sock Tutorial which is SOOOOO good. If you're trying your first sock, I highly recommend it. OMG, I actually did it....however, now I'm dealing with the dreaded second sock syndrome. Especially since I'm attempting to make my own garter for the wedding (which is coming up May 31, 2008). Anyway here are some pics.

Yup, that is how my cat sleeps. No I didn't go cat tipping. He just likes to sleep like that.

This is the park that is about 5 miles from my house. We went hiking, I took pictures (about a million), this is all I had time to post.

So my wonderful Mom got me a new book...well she got me a few new book, but this one particular one I want to mention. It is called House of Mourning: A biocultural History of the Mountain Meadows Massacre. It is written by Shannon A. Novak, she is the anthropologist who studied the bones dug up in 1999 at the site. I haven't had time to read it, but I've skimmed and it looks amazing. I can't wait.

I also got an e-mail from a cousin on the Miller side of the family who said the mormon church has agreed to pursue Historical Landmark status for the Massacre site. She also stated they church bough 600 acres around the site, to preserve it from development. I hope they actually do it, and aren't' just saying they'll try. I'll believe it when I see it, but if they do, I'll be very glad.

On a brighter note, we had the bridal shower this weekend (yesterday in fact, April 20, 2008). It was so fun! My mom and FH's mom had gotten together and the made little bottles of Martinelli's Apple Cider with our picture and a "Save the Date" note on it. OMG, they were so cool. They also made little covers for lifesavers, with a "Save the Date" and our pictures. It was wonderful. We had good food, good conversation, FH even showed and it was so fun! Wow, the wedding is coming up soon! I can't believe it's in less than 6 weeks. Amazing.

These kids shouldn't breed. Get it together. I'm sick and tired of seeing people dress their kids down, and raise their kids in this type of lifestyle.

So I've written about my adventures with the Claudia hat and my apparent inability to follow a pattern. So the designer e-mailed me on Ravelry and ask what my problems were, could she help, and encouraged me to e-mail her with any questions. HOW FREAKIN' COOL is that! I thought that was so nice!

In addition, I found a typo in the pattern. YUP me, I did it. You don't know how cool that was. I have a learning disability, it involves spacial skills, and a few other visual issues. The fact that I was able to look at the pattern (the part I was doing correctly) then look at the knitting and envision what she was saying, then realize it was a typo, and figure out what she meant, to me that was like finding the Holy Grail. Knitting has really upped my abilities when it comes to spacial things, and I felt like a normal person.

I've read so many stories about people who knit figuring this out, or that out. I really have to just get a pattern and follow it. I don't make stuff up, because I can't picture thing in my head. I know the stitches, I can follow a pattern, but as for seeing what it'll look like, I don't make anything that I can't see a picture of first. Because I have no idea what it'll look like if there isn't that picture. I was so excited, and so proud of myself.

That and FH is super amazing at visual measuring and picturing. He can look at something and tell exactly (maybe within a 1/4 of an inch) the dimensions, he can see something and figure out how things fit together. He comes up with good ideas for his boss, and then implements them.....and they think he's a genius. Me, you give me 15 things to pack in a trunk, I'll get two of them in (kinda) and you still wont be able to close the trunk. ARRRGGGHHH. But finding a typo and knowing what was meant, to me, that was one of the coolest moments. I think my brain is re-knitting. HA, I made a pun! HE HE, I'm freakin' hilarious!

Oh yeah, what am I doing while I take a break from the hat? I'm attempting Silver's sock tutorial which I am doing, and doing well. It is amazing. Every knitter should try it, and bow down to her teaching prowess. I will post pictures soon. I love Silver.

P.S. The designer said the updated version should be out next week, but for anyone who wants it, here is the mistake/typo:

Row 5 of the trellis pattern reads: p1, repeat [c2B, p2], until 3 stitches remain, c2b, p1, slm. It SHOULD read p1, repeat [c2B, p2], until 3 stitches remain, c2B, p1, slm OMG, I published errata WOW, I'm a real knitter.

So I know one of the knitter's most important mantras is "Trust the pattern". I do, and I always have.....however, perhaps before a knitter learns that little gem of wisdom a knitter should learn "Read the pattern". As I said in my last post I was...note I said WAS knitting the Claudia Hat for my FMIL. I had to tink out two whole rounds (yes the cable rounds) because I wasn't paying attention to the pattern. I trusted the pattern, however, I apparently can't trust my eyes.

Then, I messed up AGAIN. I got so frustrated, I ripped the damn thing off of my needles, and threw it away. I am going to start it up again, but I'm going to give myself a few days so that I can calm down. Right now, due to no fault of it's own, the pattern is dead to me. I do believe, my heart will soften towards the pattern again by this weekend, and I will again attempt the pattern, and I will be reading and paying very close attention.

I'm knitting a new hat, a pattern I found on Ravelry.com. The hat is called Claudia and is a beautiful pattern. I'm making the hat for my FMIL (future Mother-in-Law). All she requested was a hat in a dark color. So I picked the pattern, and the yarn....well and the color too. I'm knitting it out of Malabrigo worsted, colorway - dark earth. The color looks a lot better in person than it does on the website. I've heard people raving about Malabrigo, and so I bought some at Stitches West 2007. Anywhoo, I could never figure out what to do with it, well I finally have, and I know know why everyone loves it soooooooo much. It is incredibly soft and knits up so wonderfully. I highly suggest using it to knit with. I'm knitting with Addi Turbo needles, which I love so, they are fast and smooth. I would have liked to knit it on Knit Picks, fixed Options but I didn't have the money to buy new needles, nor did I want to wait for them to get here. I saw this pattern, thought it was perfect and wanted to cast on NOW!!! I'm 9 rows in, and loving the pattern.

Oh, because I've been making so many hats lately, I realized I am in serious need of a full set of double pointed needles. So I found some on ebay, and here they are. The seller had great feedback, so I gambled. I love bamboo needles, so I got them. I also got some Brittany Birch Cable Needles. I usually use DPN's as cable needles, but I thought, for $4.25 I couldn't go wrong. I have to say, I LOVE these DPN's. They have a little ridge on both sides so the the stitches don't slip off, they are great. Right now I'm using them on the Claudia hat.

I was just pursuing the news and saw an article on the highest paid small screen (T.V.) actor. He's making $600,000 per episode, let me repeat that PER EPISODE!!!!! Ok, so he's not going to do a full season, which is generally let's say 20 episodes. Even if he does half, 10 episodes, that is $6,000,000. REALLY?!? 6 Million dollars?!? HUNH! I bet he can afford gas, and groceries. He gets $600,000 per episode....but we're in a recession, or heading towards one. STUPID!

How utterly stupid! Ok, I watch the show, I like CSI, I even ignore how cheesy and silly the writing is. But I'm kind of.....nope....I'm really seriously disgusted! $600,000 per episode. YOU'RE AN ACTOR, you DON'T really catch bad guys, you catch "as seen on t.v." bad guys. This is wrong and ridiculous!

I finished the Lucky 7 Hat. I sewed in a tag (albeit badly sewed in a tag) that says "From the Knitting Needles of Elisa", my lovely Mamma got them for me. Here are some pics. So I just got my cake toppers in the mail. They are super cute and kinda funny, gotta love the computer age. I actually bought them on ebay, but the link shows a bigger picture. They are mix and match interracial cake toppers. He he, how cool?!?

We've got pretty much everything done, just a few loose ends to tie up, but nothing too bad. With two months left, I've gotta get moving on the loose ends, but they'll get done.

I've not had much time to knit, however, I've been slowly plugging away on a hat. I have about 20 rows left to go. The one I'm knitting is out of 100purewool, the colorway is Mysterious 3ply. The hat pattern is the Lucky 7 Hat. I found the pattern on Ravelry, which I have nicknamed "Knitter's myspace" and is a super cool site. It's an easy pattern, simple and a good pattern for those new to circ's and cables. It's a little small, but with the ribbing I'm sure it'll stretch quite a bit. Once that hat is done, I will be starting a hat for Future MIL (Mother-in-Law) who has requested a hat in dark colors. By the time I get it done, it will be too warm, but she can keep it for next winter. I haven't decided on a pattern, something simple but classy. However, I will be using MMMMMMMalibrigo, since it's soft, warm and pretty!

My mom is cool, and FH is loving his Easter present. Mom got him carpet skates. We got home too late last night to try them out, but I have no doubt tonight he and Little Jr. will be skating around the living room.

I got FH a watch for Easter, he and the family love it. The watch has the Belizean flag on the face, I got it on ebay, (yuppers, I'm a ebay lover)!!!

I just bid on some double pointed bamboo needles on ebay. The brand is U-nitt. They are sizes 1-15 (US sizing) with 5 needles each size. Right now the bid is at 10.00 with 6.50 for shipping. If I win, I will have a full set of DPN's for 16.50, CHEAP!!!!!!! I love ebay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
